  8. Your job if you want to help is to dig deep in your pockets, give over your spare bedrooms to a Ukraine family and let them ride your pride and joys.
  9. No thanks by the way as most western companies with ethics are pulling out or pausing investments in Russia However US firms such as Coca Cola , Macdonalds, Starbucks , Danone are staying and selling their burgers and sugar drinks to the Ruskies
  10. yes agreed, but a step too far with hindsight which is always great, with the fall of the Soviet union , we the west had a chance to open up Russia in 1991 to join the fold, should have let them join NATO some say.........with the creeping NATO Alliance to their borders (see map in earlier post) it's liking prodding a cornered bear with a stick
  11. it only takes 1 nuke to render Wales ash and rubble. 1 in Lincolnshire ends Madmattt's dreams of playing his Grand Piano in albert hall and all that work by JW rebuilding my bike in Malton, is for nothing
  12. WWIII no thank you Ukraine will still exist but would have a puppet leader like Belarus everyone needs cool heads here NATO is a defense role always has been UK and US goes into Iraq and Libya - presumably due to oil there - no WMD found - allowed the rise of ISIS. Russia was against this. we never stopped Russia in Chechnya, or Georgia !! but not Syria when the Spring uprising of 2011 wanted Bashar out, and Russia bombed the shit of the turns wanted democracy. Yes Ukraine is tragic and a lot of lives will be lost, as its close to us it i don't think Putin will invade NATO baltic countries or Finland that is a route too far Putin always said if there was no Russia then there was no world it's like a world chess game, and as i said earlier USA and Russia have now strategic dialogue not to escalate to Nuke. kind of gives green light for Putin. Don't always assume US will come to our aid, if it harms their long term aspirations they wont only way of getting Putin out is from is from within... sanctions would work over time, but USA still take Russia oil , why Biden does not want to inflict economic hardship on the american public. When the pump prices start rising they start bleating.

  16. sanctions are biting all Meerkat adverts have been pulled Meerkat ads pulled over Ukraine war sensitivities By Russell Hotten BBC News Published 5 days ago Share IMAGE SOURCE,COMPARETHEMARKET The Comparethemarket price comparison site has pulled ads featuring the animated rich Russian meerkat Aleksandr Orlov from news bulletins and content about the Ukraine war. The firm said it had reviewed its media strategy due to the sensitivities around the Russian invasion. Orlov, and sidekick Sergei, feature in one of the advertising industry's most recognised campaigns. The firm stressed in a statement: "The meerkats are fictional characters." Comparethemarket continued: "They have no association with Russia and the current situation. We are continually reviewing our advertising to ensure we're being sensitive to the current situation." Orlov does, however, hail from a fictional Russian town and subsequently moved to a London mansion, according to the firm's owner, Peterborough-based financial company BGL. The meerkat ads have been running since 2009, and have been so successful that Orlov's "simples" catchphrase was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2019. The characters have spawned spin-off cuddly toys, sent as promotions to people who used the price comparison site. Comparethemarket's move underlines how the Ukraine war has put a focus on companies with Russia links, no matter how remote. There has been a social media campaign for UK supermarkets to show their support by renaming chicken kievs "chicken kyivs", using the preferred Ukrainian spelling of its capital. And an American restaurant chain, Applebees, apologised and pulled light-hearted ads when they appeared alongside footage of the invasion.

  21. worst case scenario a Grozny style blitz of Kyiv On Tuesday, even Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s translator could not hold back his feelings as the Ukrainian President described Russian destruction in Ukraine. But as Ukraine resists, the Russian military could regroup. Britain’s Prime Minister said of Vladimir Putin: “His only instinct is going to be to double down and to try and ‘Grozny-fy’ Kyiv, if you know what I mean,” Boris Johnson said. And what does Johnson mean? In 1999, Vladimir Putin ordered the complete destruction of the Chechen capital of Grozny. The Russian military laid waste to Grozny, killing tens of thousands of civilians. In Putin’s own words, his troops “fulfilled their task to the end.” https://www.publicradioeast.org/2022-03-02/what-putins-destruction-of-grozny-in-1999-means-for-ukraine-now
